Question 755412: Suppose you have quarters, dimes, and pennies with a value of $1.19. How many of each coin can you have without being able to make change for a dollar?
I know the answer is 4 quarters, 3 dimes, and 3 pennies because it is in the back of the book, but how do you get that answer?
Ive tried setting up a problem like: .25q + .10d + .01p =1.19
Thank you for your help!

Suppose you have quarters, dimes, and pennies with a value of $1.19. How many of each coin can you have without being able to make change for a dollar?
I know the answer is 4 quarters, 3 dimes, and 3 pennies because it is in the back of the book, but how do you get that answer?
----
Value Equation:
p + 10d + 25q = 119 cents
----
You say the answer is q = 4; 3 = d and 3 = p
That would add up to 100 + 30 + 3 = $1.30
---
Also, quarters is change for a dollar.
---
How can that be the correct answer?
---
Did you post the problem correctly?
Cheers,
Stan H.
