Question 748696: Ginny has $1.60 made up of quarters and nickels. She has a total of 12 coins. How many of each coin does she have?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + y = 12.....1
25x + 5y = 160....2
Multiply 1 by -5
-5x - 5y = -60
25x + 5y = 160
Add
20x = 100
x = 5
Substitute x = 5
into (1)
5 + y = 12
y = 12 - 5
y = 7
Therefore she has
5 quarters and 7
nickels.
$1.25 + $0.35 = $1.60
