Question 678752: you have exacly $4.40 in the U.S. currency of quarters, dimes, and nickels. How many of each coin do you have if you have the same number of each type of coin?
Answer by rm29924(97)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let X = the number of each type of coin
quarters = .25X
dimes = .10X
nickels = .05X
added together they equal 4.40
.25X+.10X+.05X=4.40
.4X=4.40
divide both sides by .4 to get the variable X by itself
x=11
check the answer:
.25X+.10X+.05X=4.40
.25(11)+.10(11)+.05(11)=4.40
2.75+1.10+.55=4.40
4.40=4.40
