Question 661894: A jar contains 78 coins consisting of nickels and quarters. All together it equals 12.10. How many nickels are there?
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = nickels
y = quarters
x+y=78
.05x + .25y = 12.10
.05x + .25(78-x) = 12.10
.05x + 19.5 - .25x = 12.10
-.2x + 19.5 = 12.10
19.5 - 12.10 = .2x
7.4 = .2x
x = 37 nickels
