Question 549293: In your pocket you have 25 coins (quarters and dimes). The total value of coins is $4.15. How many of each coin do you have?
Answer by JBarnum(2146) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d+q=25
.10d+.25q=4.15
first thing you should notice is the 15 cents
2 dimes= 20 cents and 1 quarter =25 cents so you need to find the combination that makes the 15 cents. 3 quarters gives 75 cents and addin 4 dimes gets 1.15
min q=3 =.75 +.40=1.15
min d=4
3q+4d=7 coins
25-7=18 coins left
18d=1.80 guess, and lets you know you will need a few more quarters
4.15-1.15=3.00
we need 3 dollars
4q=1.00
4q=1.00
10d=1.00
3+4+4=11quarters
4+10=14dimes
11q+14d=25coins
