Question 53492: Mary has $3.00 in nickels, dimes, and quarters. If she has twice as many dimes as quarters and five more nickels than dimes, how many coins of each type does she have?
Answer by bubblz190(11)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Quarters=x Dimes= 2x Nickels=2x+5
If you multiply those variables by how much the coin is worth it will equal $3.
.25x + .1(2x) + .05(2x+5) = 3
.25x + .2x + .1x + .25 = 3
.55x = 2.75
x = 5
So you have 5 quarters, 10 dimes, and 15 nickels.
