Let amt you started with be "x".
after spending 1/3 you have (2/3)x.
after spending 1/3 you have (2/3)^2x
after spend ing (3/4) you have (1/4)(2/3)^2x

Equation:
(1/4)(2/3)^2x = 4.60
---
0.1111x = 4.60
x = $41.40
