Question 518961: There is a bag containing nickels and dimes. There are twice as many dimes as there are nickels, and the total value of the coins is $1.75. How many of each coin are in the bag?
Answer by Maths68(1474)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Nickels = x
Dimes = 2x
Total Amount = $1.75 = 1.75*100=175 cents
5x+10*2x=175
5x+20x=175
25x=175
x=175/25
x=7
Nickels = x = 7
Dimes = 2x = 2*7 = 14
Check
=====
7*5+10*14 = 175
35+140=175
175=175
