I have a total of 425 coins. there are 50 more nickles than pennies and there are 25 more dimes then nickles.
-----
Quantity Eq: p + n + d = 425 coins
Quantity Eq: n = p + 50
Quantity Eq: d = n + 25
----------------------------
Substitute for "p" and for "d" and solve for "n":
(n-50) + n + (n+25) = 425
---
3n -25 = 425
3n = 450
n = 150 (# of nickels)
----
p = n-50 = 100 (# of pennies)
----
d = n+25 = 175 (# of dimes)
