Question 48872: Good Evening, i have one problem to ask you to solve for me>
1) A collection of coins is worth $5.00. The number of dimes is twice the number of nickels, and the number of quarters is 2 more than 5 times the number of nickels. What is total number of coins?
Answer by 303795(602) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
nickels=n
dimes= 2n
quarters = 5n+2
So total coins =n+2n+5n+2=8n+2
Value of nickels=5*n=5n
Value of dimes=10*2n=20n
Value of quarters=25*(5n+2)=125n +50
Total coin value=5n+20n+125n+50=150n+50
Total coin value is $5.00 so
150n+50=500
150n=450
n=3
total coins will be 26 (3 nickels, 6 dimes and 17 quarters)
