Question 479919: i have 19 coins that are worth $1.10. if they consist only of dimes and nikels, then how many nikels do i have?
Answer by tinbar(133)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x be the dimes, and let y be the nickels.
Then you know 1) x+y = 19 since there are 19 coins
and 2) the value of nickels times the number of nickels plus the value of a dime times the number of dimes should add up to 1.10, which is a fancy way of saying 0.10x+0.05y = 1.10
So with the two equations, you should be able to solve x and y
If you cannot do this, reply to me via email and I will give you the full solution
