Hi
five fewer dimes than nickels
Let x and (x+5) represent the numer of dimes and nickels respectively
Question states***(makes sense to use cents)
10x + 5(x+5) = 400 CENTS
solving for x
15x + 25 = 400
15x = 375
x = 25, the number of dimes. The number of nickels is 30. (25+5)
CHECKING our Answer
250 + 150 = 400cents or $4.00
