Let n be the number of nickels. then n/3 is the number of quarters and (n+1) the number of dimes.

5n + 10(n + 1) + 25n/3 = 500 cents
.
15n + 30(n + 1) + 25n = 1500 cents
.
70n = 1470
n = 21
dimes = 22
quarters = 7
.
