Question 33244: The owner of a health-food store sells dried apples for $1.20 per quarter-pound, and dried apricots for $1.80 per quarter-pound. How many pounds of each must he mix together to get 20lb of a mixture that sells for $1.68 per quarter-pound?
Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x be the solution:
Equation:
1.2x+1.8(20-x)=1.68(20)
1.2x-1.8x+36=33.6
-2.4=-0.6x
x=4
20-4=16
Hence, for 1.2$ there is needed to be 4lb of mixture added, and for 1.8$ there is needed to be 16lb of mixture added.
