Question 27642: Ronnie has 57 nickels and quarters. If Ronnie has $7.25, how many nickels and quarters does he have?
Answer by Paul(988) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let quarters be y
Let nickels be x
Nickel value x 100 = 5
Quarter value x 100 = 25
total value x 100 = 725
x+y=57
y=57-x (subsition)
5x+25y=725
5x+25(57-x)=725
5x-25x+1425=725
-20x=-700
x=35
y=57-35
y=22
Hence, he has 35 nickels and 22 quarters.
