We can set up two equations and solve the problem.
Let x be Crocus and y be daffodil. So:
x+y=40
.45x+.65y=20.40
Multiply the first equation by -.45 so to eliminate x. So we get:
-.45x-.45y=-18 Now add this to the second equation:

And we get:
.20y=2.40 Divide each side by .25 to get:
y=12 Now we can find x by plugging 12 for y in the first equation:
