Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=number of quarters
Then x+4 = number of nickels
LET'S DEAL IN PENNIES
Now we are told that:
25x+5(x+4)=230 get rid of parens
25x+5x+20=230 subtract 20 from each side
25x+5x+20-20=230-20 collect like terms
30x=210 divide each side by 30
x=7--------------------number of quarters
x+4=7+4=11-----------------number of nickels
CK
7*25+11*5=230
175+55=230
230=230
Hope this helps---ptaylor
