How much does each have?
:
Let x = no. of dimes Jill has, and no. of quarters Jack has
Let n = no. of nickels, Jill has
Let p = no. of pennies Jack has
:
Jill has twice as many nickels as dimes.
n = 2x

He also has 5 times as many pennies as dimes. (Assume this is jill)
p = 5x

Jill and Jack have the same amount of money.
Jill$ = Jack$
.10x + .05n + .01p = .25x
Replace n with 2x and p with 5x
.10x + .05(2x) + .01(5x) = .25x
.10x + .10x + .05x = .25x; which true, but we still don't know what x is.

If we assume Jill has 10 nickels and Jack has 10 quarters
then
2(10) = 20 nickels for Jill
and
5(10) = 50 pennies for Jill
:
.05(20) + .10(10) + .01(50) = $2.50 Jill's total
and .25(10) = $2.50 Jack's total
