Jackie wants to make a mixture of nuts to sell in her store consisting os hazelnuts and cashews.Hazelnuts cost $6.50 per pound and cashews cost $4.50 per pound. If Jackie wants 60 pounds total os mixture and the cost to be $5.10 per pound,how many pounds of each will she need
------------------------
c + h = 60 (60 lbs of cashews and hazelnuts)
650h + 450c = 60*510 --> 13h + 9c = 612 (divide by 50)
c = 60-h (from 1st eqn)
Sub for c into 2nd eqn
13h + 9*(60-h) = 612
13h + 540 - 9h = 612
4h = 72
h = 18 lbs of hazelnuts
c = 42 pounds of cashews

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let h=hazelnuts and c=cashews

"If Jackie wants 60 pounds total os mixture" ___ h+c=60 ___ c=60-h

"Hazelnuts cost $6.50 per pound and cashews cost $4.50 per pound"
for mixture ___ "and the cost to be $5.10 per pound"

h(6.50) + c(4.50) = 60(5.10)

substituting and multiplying by 10 ___ 65h + 45(60-h) = 3060
___ 65h + 2700 - 45h = 3060
___ 20h = 360
___ h=18

substituting ___ c = 60 - (18) ___ c = 42
