This is an open ended writing response and I have no idea how to begin to solve this. I am in the seventh grade.

q=d
n=2d
n+d+q=844
2d + d + d=844
4d = 844
d = 211
q = 211
n = 211(2)
n=422
So he had:
211(0.10) + 211(0.25) + 422(.05)
21.10 + 52.75 + 21.10
94.95

x = no. of quarters also
and
2x = no. of nickels
:
nickels + dimes + quarters = 844
2x + x + x = 844
:
4x = 844
x =
x = 211 dimes

then we have
211 quarters
and
422 nickels

.05(422) + .10(211) + .25(211) =
21.10 + 21.10 + 52.75 = $94.95
