Question 178282: I have a word problem that I have worked two diffrent ways and I am still not able to come up with the answer.
THe problem is:
A store employee is counting $10.00 and $20.00 bills. If there are 6 times as many $10 bills as $20 bills and the total amount is $1760, find the number of each type of bill.
10x+60+20x=1760
30x+60=1760---then subtract 60 from both sides I get
30x=1700
x=56.6666666
I am not sure what I am doing wrong so any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in Advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a= number of $10 bills
Let b= number of $20 bills
given:
(1) a+=+6b
(2) 10a+%2B+20b+=+1760
Substitute (1) in (2)
10%2A6b+%2B+20b+=+1760
80b+=+1760
b+=+22
a+=+6b
a+=+6%2A22
a+=+132
There are 132 $10 bills and 22 $20 bills
check:
10a+%2B+20b+=+1760
10%2A132+%2B+20%2A22+=+1760
1320+%2B+440+=+1760
1760+=+1760
OK
