Question 174718: I have 30 coins, all nickels, dimes, and quarters, worth $4.60. There are two more dimes than quarters. How many of each kind of coin do I have?
For this problem, it was required to use three equations:
i tried the following:
n+d+q=30
5n+10d+25q=460
d=2+q
n+d+q=30
5n+10d+25q=460
-5(n+d+q=30)
5n+10d+25q=460
-10n-10d-10q=-300
5n+10d+25q=460
-5n+15q=160; equation A
5n+10d+25q=460
d=2+q
5n+20+10q+25q=460
5n+20+35q=460
5n+35q=440; equation B
-5n+15q=160
5n+35q=440
50q= 600
q=12
-5n+15(12)=160
-5n+180=160
-5n=-20
n=4
(4)+d+(12)=30
16+d=30
d=14
5(4)+10(14)+25(12)=460
20+140+300=460
20+440=460
460=460
Would this be the correct answer??
