Let # of pennies be "x".
Then # of nickels = "x+4"
And # of quarters = 2x
And # of dimes = 2x-4
Value of pennies is (1)x cents
Value of nickels is (5)(x+4) = 5x+20 cents
Value of quarters = (25)2x = 50x cents
Value of dimes is (10)(2x-4)= 20x-40 cents
Equation:
Value of the coins is 360 cents
x + 5x+ 20+ 50x + 20x -40 = 360
76x - 20 = 360
76x = 380
x = 5 (number of pennies)
x + 4 = 9 (number of nickels)
2x = 10(number of quarters)
2x-4 = 6 (number of dimes)
