Question 14643: i have a problem, The word Problem is as follows "I have three times as many dime as quarters. If the coins are worth $6.60, how many quaters are there?" I came up with the equation 3x*.10+x*.25=6.60 and i simplified it to 3x*.10+.25x=6.60 but I do not know what to do after that. Thank You for your time and help

The two equations are
d=3q
0.25q+0.10d=6.60
Substitute the value of d into the second equation
0.25q+0.10(3q)=6.60
0.25q+0.3q=6.60
.55q=6.60
q=12
Plug in the value of q into one of the original equations
d=3(12)
d=36
There are 12 quarters and 36 dimes
