Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x="number of quarters

"there are 7 less dimes than there are quearters" __ x-7

"the value of the collection is $3.85" __ x(.25)+(x-7)(.10)=3.85

distributing and multiplying by 100 __ 25x+10x-70=385

adding 70 __ 35x=455

dividing by 35 __ x=13
