A collection of 102 nickles, dimes, and quarters is worth $13.60. There are 14 more nickles than dimes. How many quarters are there?
-----------------------
Let # of dimes by "x" ; Value of these is 10x cents
----------
# of nickels is "x+14" ; Value is 5(x+14)= 5x+70 cents
-----------
# of quarters is "102-x-(x+14)" Value is 25(88-2x)=2200-50x cents
---------------
EQUATION:
10x + 5x+70 + 2200-50x = 1360
-35x = -840
x = 24
---------
# of quarters = 88-2x = 88-48 = 40
