Question 123932: EMILY HAS 15 MORE DIMES THAN QUARTERS. IF THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE COINS IS $3.95, HOW MANY DIMES AND QUARTERS DOES SHE HAVE?
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=Q+15
.25Q+.10D=3.95
REPLACING D WITH(Q+15) THEN:
.25Q+.10(Q+15)=3.95
.25Q+.10Q+1.5=3.95
.35Q=3.95-1.5
.35Q=2.45
Q=2.45/.35
Q=7 NUMBER OF QUARTERS.
D=7+15=22 NUMBER OF DIMES.
PROOF:
.25*7+.10*22=3.95
1.75+2.2=3.95
3.95=3.95
