Answer by ikleyn(52908)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

You have x dimes and 2x quarters.

The money equation is

    10x + 25*(2x) = 480  cents.

Simplify and find x

    10x + 50x     = 480

    60x           = 480/60 = 8.

ANSWER.  8 dimes and 2*8 = 16 quarters.

Solved.
