.

Let the number of dimes be " d ".

Then the number of nickels is (25-d), correct ?

The money equation is

    10d + 5*(25-d) = 160  cents,   correct ?

Simplify this equation step by step and find d.

    10d + 125 - 5d = 160

    5d             = 160 - 125 = 35

     d                         = 35/5 = 7.

ANSWER. 7 dimes and the rest coins, 25-7 = 18 are nickels.

CHECK.   7*10 + 18*5 = 70 + 90 = 160  cents.   ! Precisely correct !

The problem is just solved.
