If the number of half dollars is H, then the number of quarters is (53-H),


and the money equation is


50*H + 25*(53-H) = 2050 cents,


50H + 25*53 - 25H = 2050,

25H = 2050 - 25*53  ====>  H =  = 29.


ANSWER.  29 half dollar coins and the rest,  53-29 = 24 quarters.
