Johnny has 7 more nickels than quarters. If the value of the nickels and quarters totals $5.75, how many of each coin does he have?
-----
Equations:
Quantity:: n = q + 7 coins
Value:: 5n + 25q = 575 cents
----------------------
Modify for eliminatioin::
5n - 5q = 5*7
5n +25q = 575
-------------------------
Subtract and solve for "q"
-------------------
30q = 540
q = 18 (# of quarters)
---
n = q+7 = 25 (# of nickels)
