Question 1103174: There are 51 coins which total $20 in a cash box. These coins are either half dollars or quarters. How many coins of each kind does he have?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
0.50 coins=x
0.25 coins=51-x
.50x+.25(51-x)=20
.50x-.25x=20-12.75, since .25*51=12.75
.25x=7.25
x=29, 50 cent pieces or $14.50
51-x=22 25 cent pieces or $5.50
That adds to $20
