Question 1097680: A youth organization collected nickeles and dimes for a charity drive by the end of the day they collected $54 if there were four times as many dimes as nickels how many of each type of coin was collected
Answer by ikleyn(52794)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Your collection is such that you can group all coins in groups/sets containing 4 dimes and one nickel each.

Each group is worth 4*10+5 = 45 cents.

Hence, the number of these groups is = 120.

Hence, the coin collection consists of 120 nickels and 120*4 = 480 dimes.

Answer. The coin collection consists of 120 nickels and 480 dimes.
