Question 10956: A collection of 5 cents and 25 cents total $2.25. The total no. of coins is 25. How many of each kind are there?
Answer by askmemath(368)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let there be X 5cent coins and Y 25cent coins
Now we know X+Y = 25
and 5X +25Y = 225
Dividing by 5 throughout
X+5Y=45
X+Y=25
Subtracting we get
4Y=20
Y=5
which means X=20
Check:
20x5 + 25x5
100+225 = 225 = $2.25 Yay!!!
