a jar of nickels and dimes contains $5.50. There are 25 more dimes than nickels. how many of each are there?
-----------------
Let # of nickels be "x" ; value is 5x cents
# of dimes = "x+25" ; value is 10(x+25)= 10x+250 cents
--------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 550 cents
5x + 10x + 250 = 550
15x = 300
x = 20 (# of nickels)
x + 25 = 45 (# of dimes)
