Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
One number: x
another : y
x = 5y+4 we'll use this value for x next
x+y = 40 substitute for x:
5y+4+y = 40
6y+4 = 40
6y = 36
y = 6
Now find x:
x = 5y+4
x = 5(6)+4
x = 34
----------------
Check:
x+y = 40
34+6 = 40 Correct
