Let us add 6 pennies to the collection (mentally, of course) and take off 8 nickels from the collection (mentally, again).

Then the updated collection is worth 290 + 6 - 8*5 = 256 cents.

After updating, the collection contains equal number of pennies, dimes and quarters, according to the condition. 
Therefore, we can group now the coins in sets containing {1 penny, 1 dime and 1 quarter} each.

Each the set is worth 1 +5 + 10 = 16 cents.

The number of such sets is  = 16.

So, the updated collection contains 16 pennies, 16 nickels and 16 dimes.

Then the original collection has 10 pennies, 24 nickels and 16 dimes.

You can check that all the conditions are satisfied.
