Quantity Eq.:: n + d = 30 coins
Value Eq:::: 5n +10d = 190 cents
-------------------------------------
Modify for elimination:
n + d = 30
n + 2d = 38
----
Subtract and solve for "d":
d = 8 (# of dimes)
n = 30-8 = 22 (# of nickels)
