Question 1036054: Mr.adams buys a bag of apples and a bag of pears for a total of $14 there are eight pounds of fruit in all the apples cost $2.30 per pound and the pears cost $1.50 per pound. how many pounds of pears and apple did he buy
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a+p = 8 pounds - Subtract p from both sides:
a = 8-p
````````````````````````````````````
2.30a+1.50p= 14
2.30(8-p)+1.50p = 14
18.40-2.30p+1.50p = 14
-0.80p = -4.40 Divide, and remember that -/-=+
p = 5.50
Mr. Adams bought 5.50 pounds of pears and 14-5.50 = 8.50 pounds of apples
