Make Nickels = x
and Quarters = y
x = y = 61.......(1)
5x + 25y = 565......(2)
Multiply Eq(1) by 25
25x + 25y = 1525.....(1)
5x + 25y = 565.......(2)
Subtract Eq(2) from Eq(1)
20x = 960
x = 48
Substitute x = 48 into Eq(1)
x + y = 61
48 + y = 61
y = 61 - 48
y = 13
Kevin and Randy had:-
48 Nickels and 13 Quarters.
