Question 1030435: Vinnie has twice as many dimes as quarters. All together, his dimes and quarters have a value of $3.15.
How many of each coin does he have?

Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the number of quarters he has, q.
Thus the number of dimes he has is 2q.
Using the value of each, we write
25q + 10(2q) = 315 (we work in cents)
Now solve for q...we get
25q + 20q = 315
45q = 315
q = 7 quarters which means
2q = 14 dimes
