Call the numbers of dimes and quarters, d and q. Then we can write
d + q = 29 and the value equation
10d + 25q = 395 (we work in cents)
Now multiply the top one by 10 and subtract...we get
10d + 25q = 395
-(10d + 10q = 290)
-------------------
15q = 105
q = 7 quarters which means
d = 22 dimes
