Question 1022646: mike paid for his coffee in the morning with 19 coins consisting of dimes and quarters. If the cost of the coffee was $2.95, how many coins were quarters? write an equation and solve.
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = number of dimes
q = number of quarters
d + q = 19
10d + 25q = 295
Multiply the first equation by 25.
25d + 25q = 475
10d + 25q = 295
Subtract to get 15d = 180, so d = 12.
Mike had 12 dimes and quarters.
