To make nickels and quarters equal you can either subtract 6 from nickels or add 6 to quarters. You can solve the problem either way:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
n= q + 6
0.05n + 0.25q = 3.30 Substitute for n:
0.05(q+6)+0.25q= 3.30
0.05q+0.30+0.25q= 3.30
0.30q+0.30= 3.30
0.30q= 3
q= 10
