Question 1008725: If Dakota has 4 times as many quarters as nickels and they have a combined value of 420 cents, how many of each coin does he have?
Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the number of each q and n.
Then we have
q = 4n
and the value equation is
25q + 5n = 420
Now substitute and get
25(4n) + 5n = 420
100n + 5n = 420
105n = 420
n = 4 nickels
q = 16 quarters
