Question 124762: Got another one. I swear A+ hates me.
Mike is three times as old as his little sister, Mary. In 4 years, he will be twice as old as Mary. How old is Mary?
I know the equation is:
M = Mike's age m = Mary's age
3m = M
and
M+4 = (m+4)2

Question 128885: diaz is 1 year more than 3 times as old as his daughter. 4 years from now he will lack 7 years from being 3 times as old as his daughter is then. find each age. this is what i have tried, with the daughter being x she is x now and x plus 4 then he is 1 plus 3x now and 4 plus 1 plus 3x then - so... 1 plus 3x equals x now and 4 plus 1 plus 3x equals x plus 4 then. i think the answer comes out to be 31 and 10, but don't know if this is the right way to get there. am i close?? thank you so much for the help!!

Question 129610: During a recent cesus, a man was being interviewedby the census taker. When asked, he told the census taker that he had 3 children. When asked their ages the man replied, "The product of their ages is 72. The sum of their ages is the same as my house number." The census taker ran to the front door, looked at the house number and returned saying "I still cant tell!" The man replied, Oh thats right! I forgot to tell youthe oldest one likes chocolate pudding." With That, the census taker wrote down the ages of the 3 children and left. How old are they?
