Last time it was the kids birthdays I noticed that even though they were born only one year apart, when I squared their ages and then added the sum of the ages they would total 1105. How old are my kids?

I think it should be set up like this: 3x+3=1/2c
"x" for present age, "c" for chad's age
i know this can't be right because i can't get an answer that makes since.

Question 50517: I have a question that is the population is given by P=10,000(1.04)^t where t is number of years after 1988. I have to find the population in 1988 and 1989.
In 1988 I have P=10,000 (1.04)^0 which is 10,000 people
in 1989 I have P=10,000(1.04)^1 which came to 10,400 people.
Am I on hte right track with this sort of problem???
