Write an equation for each statement
:
In 3 more years, x will be 6 times as old as y was last year.
x + 3 = 6(y - 1)
x + 3 = 6y - 6
x - 6y = -6 - 3
x - 6y = -9

When y's present age is added to x's present age the total is 68.
x + y = 68
x - 6y = -9; subtract the first equation

y = 77/7
