let Clarence age be "x"
After four years,
clarence age=x-4
father's age=5(x-4)-1
=5x-20-1
=5x-19
But the sum
of their age's is 39.
i.e x+5x-19=39
6x=39+19
6x=60
divide bothsides by 6
x=10
clarence age is 10yrs
His father's age=5x-1
=5(10)-1
=50-1
=49yrs
IS THAT OK?
