Robert is 5 years older than Manuel
R = 5 + M......(1)
Four years ago Manuel's age was
three-fourths of Robert's age.
M - 4 = 3/4(R - 4).......(2)
.....
Take Equation(1)
R = 5 + M and rearrange
so, M = R - 5
In Equation(2)
substitute R - 5 for the
M in Equation (2)
M - 4 = 3/4(R - 4).......(2)
(R - 5) -4 = 3/4(R - 4)
R - 5 - 4 = 3/4R - 3
Collect like terms
R - 3/4R = - 3 + 5 + 4
1/4R = 6
R = 24
Robert is 24 yrs old
Manuel is 19 yrs old
